Promoting Sustainability
We at Modern Mural take our best measures to ensure our products and processes promote
a sustainable environment without sacrificing quality. Your mural was made by hand
in Mountain View, CA. Local manufacturing has a far lighter impact on the environment
than foreign imports and supports our economy. Many foreign factories have little
or no environmental regulations. Here are a few of the efforts we make to provide
our products to you in a sustainable way:
|
|
|
Our vendors are members of the above initiatives.
|
Wood
Our local producer of our knot-free pine stretcher bars is part of the Sustainable
Forestry Initiative. The pine we use for our stretcher bars is grown in the United
States. Logging tropical hardwoods like teak, mahogany, rosewood, and other timber
for furniture and other wood products is clearly unsustainable for any length of
time. The sawdust from the production of the stretcher bars is given to local farmers
for bedding for livestock.
Ink
Our award-winning eco friendly latex ink we use for all of our canvas prints is odorless, contains no harmful VOCs
and requires no special ventilation/equipment in our production facility. It is non-toxic,
non-allergenic, odorless, non-flammable, non-combustible and contains no hazardous air
pollutants (HAPs). Our ink vendor has been proactive in establishing environmentally sound business practices
that have both reduced the environmental impact of its products and led to the adoption
of cleaner, more energy efficient manufacturing practices. Every product is designed
and manufactured through sustainable processes that meet ISO 14021 standards.Their latex
water-based formulation reduces the impact of printing on the environment and meet the
chemical requirements of the NordicEcolabel (Nordic Swan) for printing companies and AgBB
criteria for health related evaluation of VOC emissions of indoor building products.
Media
We use recyclable media whenever possible. Our vendors have a commitment to greatly
improved waste reduction efforts, air management, and solid waste management and
are a part of the Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership, a joint venture
between the Specialty Graphic Printing Association (SGIA), Printing Industries of
America (PIA/GATF) and Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) which creates guidelines
for sustainable printing practices. With our media, every product is designed and
manufactured through sustainable processes that meet ISO 14021 standards.
Packaging
We use sustainable packaging materials, which includes 100% recyclable materials.
In addition we use downgagued bag films which use 85% less packaging than traditional
methods and reduce landfill waste. Please continue the awareness and recycle the
packaging from your mural.
Our Studio
We try hard to maintain an efficient work environment not only for fulfilling orders
quickly but also to have a small energy and waste footprint in the world while doing
so. Our production facility is equipped with low wattage lights, machines, and natural
ventilation and skylights to lower our overall energy usage. We reuse excess materials
for packing when possible and recycle any remaining materials. We also incentivize
employees to walk or bike to work and combine outgoing shipments into as few trips
as possible.
